January update!

January certainly proved to be a jam packed month, an excellent way to start out my year of change. I haven't been keeping up with the blog as much as I should, but I'm currently waiting for the mash up of avocado, honey, olive oil and egg yolk to harden on my head, so I'm going to work on it all now.  Oh and don't worry, I will explain the avocado hair mask later, and there will be pictures lol.

So, the last time was just a photo update of those Pineapple Bliss Cupcakes I was trying out for Walgreen's Healthy Bake Sale Contest... and I WON!  Boo-yah! They were amazingly moist and sold like hotcakes at work, which was excellent because proceeds went to our company charity.

People usually think I'm lame for doing all of the silly Rec Committee stuff at work, but A) I get to get out of the application and move around, and B) I win stuff!  I won a $20 dollar gift card of my choice to Red Lobster, Bahama Breeze, or Olive Garden.  Since I know the boy is nuts for seafood, he and I decided to head to Red Lobster in Waterford and try out the 4-Course Menu for $15 dollars before it ended. It was packed as per usual in Waterford on a Saturday night, but we still had a great meal.

Cheddar Bay Biscuits... why are you so delicious... and so freaking high in calories?!

Needless to say, I wound up filling up on biscuits, soup and salad (as did the boy ), so by the time my gigantic plate of pasta and chicken arrived, I ate like three bites and saved the rest for work ( I got two meals out of it! ). The dessert was incredibly tiny, but it's only 15 dollars, so I really didn't mind.

Every year, Lou and I also look forward to Chinese New Year.  This may seem odd for a Puerto Rican man and Irish girl to look forward to this, but trust me you'll understand.

Lou and I have our favorite little restaurants we love to go to ( El Potro, any kind of Thai food, Rice and Beans, etc. ) and being the charming man that he is, we always manage to get in good with the owners. That is how we came to know the Chinese owners of the Japanese Hibachi inspired restaurant Shogun's.  Every Chinese New Year, Tom and his wife ( who is adorable and amazing ) shut down the restaurant, invite all of the regulars, the worker's, and Tom's family over, and the party and the food ( omg SO. MUCH. FOOD. ) ensues.  And good lord... they party hard.

After about 3 sake bombs, the most amazing spread of sushi, sashimi, lo mein and any other kind of delicious sea food you can imagine, Lou and I managed to get home safe and sound, and immediately pass out.  I think the Year of the Dragon will be a very interesting year. :)

Well to keep these posts from being a mile long, I think I'll cut is short here, and post again a little later today. All of this avocado in my hair is making me hungry, I think I'm gunna heat up some leftovers, perhaps try an arepa recipe :-D

Till later!

Baking (photo) Update!

They can be so cute when they aren't being annoying...

Lately I'e been waking up to a big fluffy mound of Grey Madame butt in my face... lol. In her defense, she's had a head cold

This is of course, 2 hours after she sits and howls at me while in the middle of REM, and proceeds to push things off of my nightstand in protest until I finally get so aggravated that I get up and feed her and Niko. Lol

But other than that... adorable. :)

If you own or have ever owned a cat, you will love the web comic Cat vs. Human, it's one of the few web comics I read  almost every day. Her new comic, Lemonade Swimming Pool is also quite adorable :)

Speaking of blogs and websites, I've recently found this amazing cooking website, Skinnytaste.com ... I'm so impressed with how thorough she is with the calorie information as well as the shear amount of recipes she has posted! I'm trying out my first recipe from her site today, the Pineapple Bliss Cupcakes.  Recently I signed up for the Recreation Committee at work, and I'm baking these cupcakes for our Healthy Bake Sale... I will post pictures later of the finished product!

For now, I'm going to draw for a little bit, then meet up with Andi at Subway for lunch :)

A quote I like :)

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes."

January Plans

So, in accordance with my friends' resolutions for me this year, I have to pick one new or scary thing to try every month.  This month, my new thing is fishing! Not so scary, but the idea of fish with teeth is a little creepy.  Mostly the grossness of smelling like fish all day is what I'm trying to conquer. So, hopefully I will be fishing ( oh yes, there will be pictures ) sometime between the 15th and the 25th, with my boyfriend Luis and our good friend and former Chipotle comrade, Mark.

I'm also planning on finishing Ed's painting in the month of January, keeping with Alysha's resolution for me.  I really don't have much farther to go on it, maybe 7 to 10 hours of work and finishing.

'Hurricanes and Butterflies'
I just need to finish up the water, dock, and rework the girl a little bit.  Super excited to finally finish it! I hope Ed still wants it lmao.

But I must cut this post short, gotta go help Lou finish moving in to his new place. Much love!

2012: Let's hit the ground running!

Just wanted to wish all a very Happy New Year! I'm honestly really excited ( with nerves as well as optimism ) for what 2012 has in store for me. I'm going to be starting out 2012 running... literally and figuratively. I'd like to work out for at least 30 minutes every day, 6 days a week ( 3 days running and 3 days weight training ). I'm also aiming to spend one of my days off from work painting, drawing, taking photos/all of the above for 6 to 8 hours every week.

Ticker tape at midnight on Wall Street, downtown Orlando, with my Lou. <3

But for now, I'm sleepy from a long, action-packed weekend ( and year for that matter ) so I'm off to bed.  Tomorrow, the fun begins!
