So, the last time was just a photo update of those Pineapple Bliss Cupcakes I was trying out for Walgreen's Healthy Bake Sale Contest... and I WON! Boo-yah! They were amazingly moist and sold like hotcakes at work, which was excellent because proceeds went to our company charity.
People usually think I'm lame for doing all of the silly Rec Committee stuff at work, but A) I get to get out of the application and move around, and B) I win stuff! I won a $20 dollar gift card of my choice to Red Lobster, Bahama Breeze, or Olive Garden. Since I know the boy is nuts for seafood, he and I decided to head to Red Lobster in Waterford and try out the 4-Course Menu for $15 dollars before it ended. It was packed as per usual in Waterford on a Saturday night, but we still had a great meal.
Cheddar Bay Biscuits... why are you so delicious... and so freaking high in calories?!
Needless to say, I wound up filling up on biscuits, soup and salad (as did the boy ), so by the time my gigantic plate of pasta and chicken arrived, I ate like three bites and saved the rest for work ( I got two meals out of it! ). The dessert was incredibly tiny, but it's only 15 dollars, so I really didn't mind.
Every year, Lou and I also look forward to Chinese New Year. This may seem odd for a Puerto Rican man and Irish girl to look forward to this, but trust me you'll understand.
Lou and I have our favorite little restaurants we love to go to ( El Potro, any kind of Thai food, Rice and Beans, etc. ) and being the charming man that he is, we always manage to get in good with the owners. That is how we came to know the Chinese owners of the Japanese Hibachi inspired restaurant Shogun's. Every Chinese New Year, Tom and his wife ( who is adorable and amazing ) shut down the restaurant, invite all of the regulars, the worker's, and Tom's family over, and the party and the food ( omg SO. MUCH. FOOD. ) ensues. And good lord... they party hard.
After about 3 sake bombs, the most amazing spread of sushi, sashimi, lo mein and any other kind of delicious sea food you can imagine, Lou and I managed to get home safe and sound, and immediately pass out. I think the Year of the Dragon will be a very interesting year. :)
Well to keep these posts from being a mile long, I think I'll cut is short here, and post again a little later today. All of this avocado in my hair is making me hungry, I think I'm gunna heat up some leftovers, perhaps try an arepa recipe :-D
Till later!
